Constellation Energy Classic: Way Above Par
December 21, 2004

Some of the world’s top senior golfers met on the greens at Hayfield’s Country Club in Hunt Valley, Md., last October for the second annual Constellation Energy Classic, an event that raises money for Maryland-based charities. This year, the Packard Center was selected as a beneficiary.

“We’re honored that Constellation Energy included us among their favorite charities,” says Packard Center Director Jeff Rothstein. Exceeding last year’s inaugural fund-raising goals, this year’s event raised roughly $400,000. The Center receives a quarter of those funds. “The true winners are the charities we support,” says Mayo Shattuck III, chairman, president and CEO of Constellation Energy Group. “We’re proud to welcome the Packard Center as our newest beneficiary.”

This year’s Champion Tour featured such greats as Wayne Levy—this year’s winner—Tom Kite, Jim Thorpe, Larry Nelson, Peter Jacobsen and Tom Watson. Watson’s caddy, Bruce Edwards, died of ALS earlier this year, making the Packard Center’s gift especially meaningful. Baltimore Orioles legend Cal Ripken, Jr. once again served as the event’s honorary chairman.
