Artist Karen Flann presents "Leaving Iowa"

Artist Karen Flann presents "Leaving Iowa" at the Minas Gallery from December 10, 2011 - February 26, 2011 at the Minas Gallery in Baltimore.  Flann is a member of the Springfield Art Guild, the Art League at the Torpedo Factory, the Fairfax Council for the Arts, and the National Collage Society. The work in Leaving Iowa reflects on the experience that comes along with the leaving. While there is the joy of discovery, there is simultaneously a mourning the loss of the familiar. The experience is re-created as each piece is made. There is a departure with excitement and anticipation as new pieces of paper and beautiful colors. Moments, weeks, and sometimes months later, searching for a special place in the piece can lead to a feeling of being lost in the landscape of the image. There is a feeling of yearning for a familiar space in this imagined world.  Proceeds from the sale of Flann’s work will go to the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research in memory of her father and brother.  An opening night reception is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2011 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Minas Gallery.
