Annual Fiesta 5k for ALS Research a Success!

Tenth annual run through downtown Baltimore brings thousands together to raise money for ALS research.

On a recent sunny Saturday morning, 1,400 people rose at the crack of dawn, laced up their running shoes and headed to Power Plant Live in downtown Baltimore to raise money and show their support for the Robert Packard Center's 10th annual Fiesta 5K for ALS Research.

Since its inception in 2007, the Fiesta 5K has raised more than $2.5M for ALS research. Packard Center Director Jeffrey Rothstein, M.D., Ph.D., says the race was developed to alert the local community about the Center's innovative work. "By hosting the Fiesta 5K every year, Baltimore becomes more aware of ALS and supports our efforts toward a cure," Rothstein said.

The 11th annual Fiesta 5k for ALS Research will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017.  Be sure to save the date!

This year the Packard Center welcomed Team Travelers to the Fiesta 5K.  The employees of Travelers Insurance ran in honor of CEO Jay Fishman, who is currently battling ALS.

The Fiesta 5K would not be possible without the generous help of countless volunteers who arrived on the scene beginning at 5:30am on race day!

Special thanks to our Master of Ceremonies, Jon Boesche from Mix 106.5, who entertained the crowd before and after the race, and shared his own personal connection to ALS.

Congratulations to Alex and Andy Nelson, Team Captains for Team Nelly, who won the award for the Largest Team (with 120 runners) and Largest Team Fundraising (with just over $29,000 raised in 2016).  Since 2011, Team Nelly has raised over $200,000 for the Packard Center!
