Upcoming Events Support the Packard Center
Get Soaked in Suds/Dine in Elegance — All for ALS
The Packard Center holds high standards for research, and the standards extend to making good, careful use of the support we’re given. Our staffing is lean, our budget’s tight, our gratitude real, and we never stop being committed to finding the best therapy and, ultimately, a cure for ALS. The Adventure Quencher – August 28thThe Adventure Quencher bills itself as part 5K run, part nature hike and…well…big kids’ birthday party. This Saturday, August 28 event is “more than just a run, more than obstacles.” There’s flying goo, things to crawl through and jump over. You will get wet! Adventure is certain in this event in Howard County, MD at the Rockburn Branch Park. The Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders will be at the after party (Union Jacks) to sign autographs, take pictures, and sign their new swimsuit calendars. For more information go to the Adventure Quencher website. If an obstacle course isn’t for you, perhaps volunteering is. We’re looking to recruit volunteers for race day. Contact: Jonathan Horton |
The 2nd Annual Rodeo for Research – September 25thThe second annual Rodeo for Research is Saturday, September 25 in Fallston, MD. The event -- a great cocktail reception and dinner in a classy barn -- features an appearance by Hopkins neurosurgeon-author Ben Carson and an ALS reseacher. Wear your boots and mosey up to the Rodeo for Research website to buy tickets and/or make a donation. MDA’s Wings Over Wall Street – September 30thA highlight every year is the gala that does everything right: MDA’s Wings Over Wall Street. Now in its tenth year, Wings has raised more than $9 million for ALS research, with generous donations that keep Packard Center science strong. This year’s event, on September 30, is at New York’s elegant Gotham Hall. They’re hoping, this year, to pass the $10 million mark for the decade. 3rd Annual JT Walk and Beach Party – October 3rdAnd though we featured the Virginia Gentlemen and their JT Walk and Beach Party right here in the July Alert, we still want to remind you that this year’s event is coming up, Sunday, October 3. Learn more about the event at the 3rd Annual JT Walk and Beach Party website. Sixth Annual Bruce Edwards Celebrity Golf Classic – October 4thThe beautiful Caves Valley Golf Club is the site of the Sixth Annual Bruce Edwards Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday, October 4. PGA golfer Tom Watson and best-selling author John Feinstein will host the event, which includes an 18-hole “best ball” tournament, cocktail reception and dinner, as well a live and silent auction for unique trips, experiences and memorabilia. The Classic benefits the Bruce Edwards Foundation for ALS Research, created in honor of Watson's long-time friend and caddy who passed away from the disease in 2004. The Foundation’s main beneficiary is the Packard Center. To date, more than $3 million has been raised through this invitation-only event. | | |
