John T. Packard Joins Center for ALS Research
Board of Governors
The
Center for ALS Research is pleased to announce that John T. Packard of
Los Altos Hills, California, has agreed to serve as a member of the Board
of Governors from November 2001 to October 2004.
Mr. Packard is Advisory Managing Director of the Private Client Investment
Group of Weiss, Peck & Greer, L.L.C., of Menlo Park and San Francisco.
He is also Director of the Montgomery Street Income Securities, Inc.,
a closed-end diversified investment company trading on the NYSE. Prior
to his position at Weiss, Peck & Greer, Mr. Packard spent 37 years
at Scudder, Stevens and Clark as a Managing Director in the Private Investment
Counsel Group and Institutional Equity Group. He was the Managing Partner
for the San Francisco Office and a member of the Scudder Board for more
than 20 years. He also headed the Institutional Client Group at Scudder
with oversight responsibility for U.S. and overseas equity and fixed income
asset management teams for five years. Mr. Packard served on the Board
of Trustees of Stanford University, as Trustee of the Pacific Graduate
School of Psychology, and the Stanford Graduate School of Business Trust.
In addition to the vast professional experience Mr. Packard brings to
our Board, he also brings a personal understanding of the disease. His
son, Bob Packard, lost his life to ALS in August 2000. Mr. Packard honors
his son as a member of the board of the Robert Packard Foundation, a major
funding organization for the Center for ALS Research, and is committed
to helping us aggressively move forward in our research efforts.
