MARCUS JOINS BOARD OF THE PACKARD CENTER FOR ALS RESEARCH AT JOHNS HOPKINS

Thomas L. Marcus of Atherton, Calif., has joined the board of governors of The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins.

Since September 2001, Marcus has served as president and chief executive officer of Everyone.net, a leading provider of outsourced custom email solutions for individuals and companies around the world. Everyone.net was founded in 1998 and is based in San Jose, California. Its financial backers include two premier Silicon Valley venture capital firms, El Dorado Ventures and Labrador Ventures.

Prior to being with Everyone.net, Marcus was the chief operating officer of The Valent Group, a venture operating company founded by Accel Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners. Before The Valent Group, Marcus served as executive vice president of Flycast Communications, the Internet's leading direct response advertising network. Marcus helped bring Flycast public in May 1999; it sold to CMGI for $2.3 billion in January 2000. While at Flycast, Marcus also set up the company's international operations and handled its mergers and acquisitions activity.

In addition to experience at The Valent Group and Flycast Communications, Marcus also spent 12 years at Broderbund Software, a leading consumer software company, most recently as vice president of business development and general counsel. At Broderbund, Marcus led the company's successful 1991 initial public offering and worked closely with the Center's namesake, Robert Packard, on a number of transactions, including the company's sale to The Learning Company in 1998.

Marcus earned an A.B. from Yale University in 1975, and a J.D. from the School of Law (Boalt Hall) of the University of California, Berkeley, in 1978. He began his legal career in 1978 at Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe in San Francisco.
