HUTCHINSON JOINS BOARD OF THE PACKARD CENTER FOR ALS RESEARCH AT JOHNS HOPKINS

   

Donald P. Hutchinson of Baltimore has joined the board of governors of The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins.

Hutchinson is president and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Maryland, positions he has held since November 2002. The regional bank chain holds more than $3 billion in assets, has 62 branches and employs more than 850 people.

Previously, Hutchinson spent nine years as president of the Greater Baltimore Committee, an organization composed of executives from leading businesses, nonprofits, educational and civic institutions from the Baltimore area. He also served for five years in the state House (1969-1974) and four years in the Maryland Senate (1974-1978). Hutchinson was president of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and president of Maryland Economic Growth Associates. He was Baltimore County Executive for two terms, from 1978 to 1986.

Active in community organizations, Hutchinson currently serves on the board of directors for the Baltimore Center for the Performing Arts; the boards of trustees for the Pride of Baltimore II and Maryland Zoological Society; and the board of advisors for the Institute of Human Virology. He is a former campaign chairman of United Way of Central Maryland, a past member of the Maryland State Board of Education and a past board member of Capital Savings Bank.

A Baltimore native, Hutchinson resides in the city with his wife. He holds a bachelor's degree from Frostburg State College (now Frostburg University).
